Czechs to coordinate reaction to US Afghan withdrawal with allies

November 18th, 2020

The Czech Republic will coordinate its reaction to the United States' plan to withdraw a part of its troops from Afghanistan with the Allies, Defence Minister Lubomir Metnar has said in the wake of Tuesday's reports that Donald Trump plans to reduce the units before his January departure as US president. Trump reportedly plans to lower the number of US troops in Afghanistan to 2,500 from the current 4,500. He also seeks a partial withdrawal of US soldiers from Iraq. "It remains valid that we came to Afghanistan together and will leave together. Furthermore, the fight against terrorism remains our shared priority," Metnar said on Twitter.
