Experts from the Dvur Kralove zoo, east Bohemia, were in the international veterinary team that took eggs from the last two surviving female Northern white rhinoceros for the first time on Thursday with the aim to secure the subspecies' survival, the zoo announced today. The subspecies' last male died in 2018 and therefore the taking of eggs and their fertilisation by the now frozen sperm of the males that have died in the meantime is the only way to prevent the Northern white rhino's complete extinction.
