The Czech Supreme Court rejected the appellate review petition filed by Oleg Gubin, a Russian who is to serve a nine-year prison sentence for having knocked down and killed a tourist while driving drunk in Prague in 2017, Prague Municipal Court spokeswoman Marketa Puci told CTK on Monday. The Supreme Court issued its ruling in a closed-door session, Puci said. The Prague Municipal Court dealt with the case as the court of first instance and found Gubin guilty of endangering the public safety, because he also endangered the lives of other pedestrians. Gubin lived in Prague from the spring of 2017. On New Year's Eve, he drove with his Mercedes into a group of tourists on a pedestrian crossing in the centre of Prague.
