Czech state to take stricter steps against coal burning

February 26th, 2019

The Czech Republic will be stricter in fighting greenhouse gas emissions and it will take new measures against coal burning as the deadline to transpose the respective European directive into Czech law is this autumn, daily Lidove noviny (LN) said today. According to the latest data, 547.8 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions a year were produced in the Czech territory, which is 132 percent above the EU average, and the dominant source of pollution is the energy industry. The European Union has been forcing pollution producers to move from coal to cleaner sources of energy through carbon credits since 2005. As the results have not come up to expectations, more resolute steps will be taken soon.
