Czech prisoners repair bikes for Africa, make honey

The inmates from the Ostrava-Hermanice prison, where former president Vaclav Havel served his sentence under the communist regime and which opened 60 years ago, are repairing bikes for African children and making honey, prison head Petr Kadlec has told CTK. Even though its production is rising, the award-winning honey is not for sale and is only meant for those making it or as a gift. Five convicts taking care of ten hives participate in the honey-making project, which started two years ago. Kadlec said the project was a success and the prisoners tapped 250 kilogrammes of honey last year.
