Czech president insisting on culture minister staying in government

July 4th, 2019

The minister who uncovered corruption in his office should not be dismissed in a government which calls itself an anti-corruption cabinet, President Milos Zeman said after meeting Prime Minister Andrej Babis and Social Democrat leader Jan Hamacek on Thursday. After the meeting Babis and Hamacek said it had not brought any shift in the issue of replacing Culture Minister Antonin Stanek with Michal Smarda (both Social Democrats, CSSD), as proposed by Hamacek.
