The Regional Court in Brno sentenced Antonin Staubert to 30 years in prison for double murder on Thursday, but the verdict is not binding, as the defendant appealed it on the spot. Staubert pleaded not guilty, saying someone else had committed the murders last year. His defence counsel says the court had not heard some potential witnesses and that the pieces of evidence submitted were not sufficient. According to the indictment, Staubert murdered a man aged 89 and a woman, 44, in a family house in Breclav, south Moravia, on the night before August 6, 2019. The victims had dozens of stab wounds and lacerations, almost a hundred of them on the woman's body.
