Court orders state to apologise for Czech president' comment on ex-adviser

February 12th, 2020

The Czech state has to apologise for the comment President Milos Zeman made about his former adviser Zdenek Sarapatka, the Prague Municipal Court ruled in the definitive verdict on Wednesday. In November 2017, Zeman said on TV Barrandov that when he was prime minister (1998-2002), he sacked Sarapatka as his adviser over his incompetence. However, Sarapatka in October 2000 left the Government Office at his own initiative and based on an agreement. The apology for Zeman's statement is up to the Finance Ministry, since the president cannot be sued.
