On Monday, Poland's Interior Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said that draft legislation to reform the Supreme Court (SN) and the National Judicial Council (KRS) could be deliberated at the nearest session of the Sejm (lower house). Asked in a radio interview about reports that President Andrzej Duda and the ruling Law and Justice party had reached an agreement in their discussions on how to revamp the SN and the KRS, Blaszczak replied that "to my knowledge, there is a chance the draft legislation will be deliberated upon at the very next session of the Sejm, next week". Asked if the compromise had come as a surprise, the interior minister noted that Duda had previously met Law and Justice leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski several times and their talks "gave hope for an agreement". "I am very happy that such an agreement is now clearly in sight", Blaszczak said, adding that judiciary reform had been "a common commitment" for both sides.
