The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) received the questions from the Supreme Court on Thursday, Ireneusz Kolowca from the CJEU Press Department informed PAP. "At no stage of the proceedings does the Tribunal comment on matters that it deals with", he added. On Monday afternoon, the Supreme Court (SN) sent five questions to the Court of Justice of the European Union concerning the recent law that cut the retirement age of SN judges to 65 from 70. The SN is seeking the CJEU's ruling as regards the principle of court independence and impartiality as the principles of EU law and the EU's prohibition of discrimination on the grounds of age. The Polish court has also suspended the application of three provisions of the Supreme Court law that define the retirement principles for SN judges.
