Central bank board approves introduction of instant payments in Slovakia

The Bank Board of Slovakia's central bank (NBS) has approved a national plan for introducing instant payments, i.e. their processing in real time, in Slovakia. According to NBS, instant payments will bring several benefits for both individuals and businesses. They should be launched as of February 1, 2022. In addition, the NBS Bank Board approved a measure aimed at slowing growth in the level of household debt in order to preserve financial stability. The maximum proportion of instalments of borrowers' incomes will be reduced from 80 to 60 percent.
