Caputova steps down as vice-chair of Progressive Slovakia

March 20th, 2019

Slovak presidential candidate Zuzana Caputova on Tuesday submitted a written statement in which she announced that she is stepping down as vice-chair of the extra-parliamentary Progressive Slovakia party. Caputova, speaking on Sunday after the first round of the presidential election, said she would do so at the beginning of this week. Her spokesperson Martin Burgr confirmed for TASR that she remains a member of the party. However, if she is elected president in the second round, she will leave the party as well. Caputova won 40.57 percent of the votes in the first round of the presidential election. Her opponent in the second round will be Maros Sefcovic, who came second with 18.66 percent.
