"We should remain alert every day so that we can pick up at an early stage what statements and opinions that deny the Holocaust or speak about restricting the rights of groups and individuals actually mean," Slovak President Zuzana Caputova said on the occasion of the Holocaust Victims Memorial Day on Wednesday. Caputova commemorated the victims at the Jewish Orthodox Cemetery in Bratislava, where she placed pebbles on the grave of Alfred Wetzler. Wetzler was a Slovak Jew who escaped from the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp in 1944 and along with his fellow escapee Rudolf Vrba reported on what was taking place in the camp.
