The current birth numbers should be replaced by natural person identifiers, as the Government at its session on Wednesday approved the draft law on basic natural person identifiers. The Interior Ministry says that birth numbers are no longer sufficient to meet the requirements of today's information systems. One of the reasons for this change is the error rate in assigning birth numbers and the consequent unwanted duplications. The Interior Ministry noted that birth numbers were introduced in Slovakia in 1954, which means that there will be a problem in generating new ones after 2053 without duplications.
