The Baltic Pipe pipeline will have many positive effects for gas consumers in Poland, but also in Central and Eastern Europe, Polish representatives argued at the conference on Polish, Norwegian and Danish contributions to energy security in Europe. During the debate "Energy security in Europe: How can Norway and Poland contribute?" organised by the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI) on Friday in Oslo, government officials and representatives of leading gas companies from Poland, Denmark and Norway discussed the role of the Baltic Pipe project in the development of Europe's energy sector. The CEO of Poland's gas transmission company Gaz-System, Tomasz Stepien, stressed that the Baltic Pipe is a key element of his company's investment strategy which envisages that this project, in conjunction with the interconnectors implemented by the company linking Poland with Lithuania, Ukraine and Slovakia, will contribute to the independence of the Central and Eastern Europe region from the currently dominant supply of raw material from the East.
