Balog urges European people's parties 'return' to Christian Dem values

May 10th, 2018

The people's parties in Europe should "return to traditional, conservative Christian Democratic values" in the interest of the community's future, Hungary's outgoing human resources minister told a roundtable organised by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the German Economic Club in Budapest late on Wednesday. Zoltan Balog insisted that traditional Christian Democratic parties "must not choose the liberal path". Concerning migration, Balog said that "the love of brethren should be separated from migration as a global trend". He said that whether a country allows migrants to enter was "not the only indicator of solidarity" and argued that Hungary is building schools and other facilities in northern Iraq. Hungary has been "forced to take an anti-migration stance because no other EU member would do it", he added.
