Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis on Thursday denied the daily Denik N's speculations suggesting he wanted to give up the Czech EU presidency in 2022, adding that he only wanted to cut down its costs. On Wednesday, Denik N reported that five ANO and Social Democrat (CSSD) ministers, who remained anonymous, said Babis thought the costs of the presidency were excessive and it would bring no benefits to Czechs. He reportedly mentioned that the Czech Republic might give up the presidency. Babis denounced the claims in a tweet, saying that the presidency was important to the Czech Republic. He added that he wanted to make it transparent and effective and make sure the Czech Republic was well-prepared for it.
