US Ambassador to Poland Georgette Mosbacher said she was honoured to be serving the diplomatic function on the 100th anniversary of the arrival of the first US ambassador to Poland, Hugh Simons Gibson. Mosbacher said on Twitter that Polish-US relations today are better than ever. Hugh Simons Gibson presented his credentials to the authorities of the reborn Poland on May 2, 1919. He served his function in Warsaw until May 3, 1924. He was a close friend of Herbert Hoover, head of US humanitarian aid for Central and Eastern Europe after World War I, who was later elected US president.
