ZSSK: Passenger numbers continuously down due to extraordinary situation

November 12th, 2020

Slovakia's state-run passenger rail carrier ZSSK continues to record a significant decrease in the number of passengers in connection with the extraordinary situation in the country, ZSSK spokesman Tomas Kovac told TASR on Thursday, adding that the worst week from this viewpoint was seen in early April. In the week between November 2 and 8, ZSSK transported 381,183 passengers, while it was as many as 1.257 million in the same period of 2019. The year-on-year drop thus amounts to 69.68 percent. "The worst week in terms of passenger numbers was the 15th week of the year (April 6-12) when ZSSK transported mere 124,993 passengers. Thus, last week it transported 256,190 passengers more than in the worst week of the first wave," said Kovac.
