US closely follows situation in Poland - State Department spokesman

The United States State Department said it is aware of the case of leading abortion rights activist who faces a criminal investigation, and of a proposed tax on media advertising revenue critics claim threatens free speech. Marta Lempart, the organiser of the Women's Strike movement, faces a number of charges related to her role in mass protests against the introduction of a near total ban on abortion. Price also addressed the proposed tax, which has prompted claims it will be used by the government to silence media critical of it.
