Union at US Steel Kosice declares strike alert

The trade union at US Steel Kosice has announced a strike alert, citing the failure to reach an agreement regarding a salary-related supplement to the valid collective agreement following five rounds of collective bargaining, OZ KOVO representative Anita Fakova told TASR on Tuesday. "From our point of view, the issue of weekly working time, or the enormous pressure from the employer to have it increased, has become a key moot point," the head of the OZ KOVO trade union at US Steel Kosice Juraj Varga said. The weekly working time at the plant currently stands at 35.5 hours, which the union wants to preserve. Increases in salaries for this year and other benefits are among further apples of discord between the two sides.
