Two Poles sent to jail for illegal trade with Peruvian brew

The Ostrava Regional Court meted out a prison sentence of 5.5 and 8.5 years to a Polish couple for trading a hallucinogenic drink based on old recipes of Peruvian medicine men, while the third person ended up with a conditional sentence, the court announced today. The Poles were selling ayahuasca, a South American psychoactive brew used both socially and as ceremonial spiritual medicine among the indigenous peoples of the Amazon basin. In Czechia, ayahuasca is listed among illegal drugs.
