Trencin shopping mall evacuated due to suspicious briefcase

October 5th, 2021

Slovak police have arrested and charged a man with public endangerment after he left a suspicious briefcase in a shopping mall in Trencin, TASR has learned. In a post on Facebook, the police reported that they had to evacuate the entire shopping centre and cinema and cordon off neighbouring areas, as there was a reasonable suspicion that the briefcase might contain an explosive device. "A pyrotechnic specialist was summoned to the mall and defused the briefcase in full compliance with strict safety measures. No injuries were sustained and there was no damage to property during the operation," police said, adding that the perpetrator could face up to ten years if found guilty.
