A group of 92 active and retired Polish Supreme Court judges appealed on Wednesday for the immediate execution of two Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) rulings on the Supreme Court's disciplinary chamber. On July 14 and 15, the CJEU ruled the chamber, which can discipline judges, should be suspended owing to a lack of independence from the executive. Poland has been given until August 16 to implement the rulings or face financial sanctions. The Polish government has so far refused to comply with the rulings, arguing that they violate the Polish constitution and that the EU has no mandate over member states' judicial systems.
