The most common cause of death in Slovakia in 2020 was cardiovascular diseases, which claimed the lives of more than 27,000 people, followed by cancer (around 14,000 people) and novel coronavirus, according to data released by the Statistics Office on Friday. Of the 59,000 people who died in 2020, around 31,000 or 53 percent passed away in hospital, while 17,000 or 29 percent died at home. "At facilities for the long-term ill, [the figure] was about 1,500 people (3 percent)," added the Statistics Office.
