Smer: 300,000 signatures collected for referendum on snap election

The opposition Smer-SD party announced on Friday that it had collected 300,000 signatures under a petition for a snap election, while the fellow opposition Voice-SD earlier in the day announced that it had garnered 285,000 signatures. The petition was organised mainly due to the dissatisfaction of the opposition and a large part of the public with the government's anti-Covid policies. According to Smer chief Robert Fico, the final figure for the Smer petition could be known by Monday and it could be around 500,000. At least 350,000 signatures are needed for announcing a referendum.
