The local mining authority of Veszprem, western Hungary, has ordered local alumina plant Mal to put a stop to dust accumulating and spreading from its red sludge reservoirs, one of which had caused an environmental disaster two years ago. Zoltan Kaldi, an official from the authority, said on Monday that Mal had to act within five days to remedy the situation. Kaldi said that measurements taken on May 16 and 17 showed dust concentration well above the permissible levels in the area.
