Over the past twenty years state institutions haven't met any of the 22 measurable goals defined in strategies for modernising the main national rail corridors included in the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), according to the conclusions of an analytical commentary issued by the Supreme Audit Office. By the end of 2020, only a third of the main lines had been upgraded at a cost of 1.6 billion, while work is under way on sections with a total length of 74 kilometres. However, by 2030, another 563 km of track needs to be modernised, with the cost of comprehensive reconstruction estimated at 5.6 billion.
