Slovakia employment down in all sectors but IT in Sept

November 10th, 2020

Employment in Slovakia continued to fall year on year (y-o-y) in almost all sectors in September, albeit with the rate of decline slowing down in most of them, the Slovak Statistics Office reported on Tuesday. Information and communications services was the only sector to report y-o-y growth, but its rate of growth decelerated to 0.5 percent in September. The biggest drop was again seen in accommodation, down by 16.7 percent y-o-y. Annual decreases were also recorded in the following sectors: in restaurants and pubs - 9.1 percent; in construction - 8.3 percent; in industry - 6.1 percent; in wholesale - 4.8 percent; in retail - 3.8 percent; in the sale and repair of motor vehicles - 2.9 percent, in transport and warehousing - 1.6 percent; and in selected market services - 0.4 percent.
