The method for calculating the minimum pension in Slovakia will change after parliament on Thursday approved an amendment to the law on social insurance sponsored by the junior governing Slovak National Party. The main goal of the amendment, approved with the votes of 82 of the 137 MPs present, is to accelerate year-on-year growth in the minimum pension. Instead of being calculated in relation to the subsistence minimum, the minimum pension will be calculated as a certain percentage of the average salary for the two years preceding the respective calendar year.
