Slovak MEPs urge Belgian police to investigate death of Slovak national

Nine Slovak MEPs have signed a call demanding that Belgian police investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Slovak national Jozef Chovanec, who died on February 27, 2018 after being detained at Charleroi airport. The call, addressed to Belgian Federal Police commissioner-general Marc De Mesmaeker, was initiated by MEP Ivan Stefanec (KDH). "The evidence leaked to the public in recent days shows clearly that the Belgian police overstepped their powers when detaining Jozef Chovanec. Their officers mistreated the Slovak national and contributed to his death," Stefanec told TASR.
