Slovak government approves Sweden's and Finland's accession to NATO

The Government on Tuesday approved the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO, advising President Zuzana Caputova to sign the relevant protocols. According to the sponsors of the motion, the accession of the two countries to the Alliance will strengthen the security of the North Atlantic area, and thus also of Slovakia. Both Sweden and Finland have justified their request to join NATO on the grounds of fundamental changes in the security environment in Europe and the need to strengthen their own security and defence following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
