The finance ministry offered striking hauliers on Thursday reduced rates of lorry tax by 12.5 percent on average and investigation of how much would it cost the state budget if allowances for foreign business travels were freed from taxes, TASR learnt on the same day from the ministry. The demand of the Slovak Haulier Union (UNAS) requesting a 50-percent cut in the road tax is unacceptable for the ministry, which views it as pure politicking, given the general election will take place in a few weeks. "This has been proven by the fact that several opposition lawmakers have participated in the ongoing strikes to make themselves more visible in the election campaign.
