Slovak bishops against priests' involvement in political parties

November 15th, 2019

The engagement of clerics in political parties is not appropriate, chairman of the Slovak Bishops Conference (KBS), Archbishop of Bratislava Stanislav Zvolensky, and Bishop of Spis Stefan Secka stated jointly on Friday. "It's appropriate for a priest to be a father of all the faithful, not a leader of those who endorse a certain political party," stated the two bishops. They noted that this in particular concerns priest Marian Kuffa from Zakovce (Presov region) in the diocese of Spis, but also other clerics actively involved in political parties or their public promotion.
