Slovakia has a lasting problem with air pollution, which is mainly due to household heating with solid fuel and waste management, said Environment Minister Jan Budaj in parliament, calling for stricter rules. Meanwhile, Slovak Gas and Diesel Association (SPNZ) executive director Richard Kvasnovsky told TASR that gas heating is an accessible and affordable solution for many regions in Slovakia. Around 350,000 households heat with solid fuel at the moment. He noted that gas heating produces 99.9 percent fewer solid air pollutants than solid fuel, and 60 percent less carbon dioxide than heating with coal.
