Shale gas laws unnecessary, says Polish official

September 8th, 2011

Poland needs no special legislation concerning shale gas exploitation as all necessary regulations are contained in EU laws, deputy Treasury Minister Mikolaj Budzanowski said on Thursday at the ongoing Economic Forum in Krynica, south Poland. Commenting on the alleged environmental hazards connected with shale gas, Budzanowski said special laws in this respect were not needed as EU legislation was "very restrictive in environmental matters". He especially noted that chemicals used in shale gas exploitation were EU-registered and posed no environmental threats.
