The Czech Senate criticised Ombudsman Stanislav Krecek over his comments on minorities and refugees, calling them biased and xenophobic. The Senate called on Krecek to keep to his vow to act independently and impartially as ombudsman. The upper house of parliament passed a resolution condemning Krecek's statements. Krecek said in response the resolution was an attempt to restrict his right to express his views. Krecek has drawn criticism over the years for disparaging statements about the Roma minority in the Czech Republic, and lately for slamming Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky for statements he said were "offensive" to western states.
