Sejm rejects no confidence motion in justice minister

October 28th, 2020

Poland's Sejm on Tuesday night rejected a Civic Coalition (KO) motion of no confidence in Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro. There were 217 votes for, 232 against and no abstentions. During a debate preceding the vote, Minister Ziobro described the accusations made against him by the opposition party as "false and demagogic". He said it was no accident that the motion had not been filed at a time when the former transport minister in the Donald Tusk government, Slawomir N. (name withheld), was detained. He added that all the steps made by opposition Civic Platform (PO) representatives and its leader Borys Budka "have not much in common with the legal order and democratic opposition."
