Sejm rejects no-confidence motion against health minister

June 5th, 2020

Poland's Sejm, the lower house of parliament, rejected the opposing Civic Coalition's (KO) no-confidence motion in Health Minster Lukasz Szumowski late on Thursday evening in a 237-to-213 vote. In its motion, KO accused Health Minister Lukasz Szumowski of failing to prepare Poland for the coronavirus epidemic. The overwhelming majority of the opposition parties' MPs voted for the minister's dismissal, against all the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party deputies. Barbara Nowacka from KO, called Szumowski "likely the biggest disappointment of recent months," who showed "the real face of the PiS government -- the face of conflicts of interest, corruption and failure."
