It is not mere fearmongering to point to illegal migration; on the contrary, it is a relevant issue for any political party in Slovakia and also for the Visegrad Group comprising the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, Slovak Interior Minister Denisa Sakova said in response to criticism of a Smer election campaign video on Wednesday. Sakova, who was speaking before a regular cabinet meeting, had been questioned by journalists concerning one of Smer's election campaign videos in which it depicts one of its main rivals, former president Andrej Kiska and his party 'For the People', as being willing to let migrants into Slovakia en masse. Sakova noted that V4 interior ministers back in the autumn discussed the growing numbers of migrants in camps in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the possibility that they could cross the Schengen zone border.
