Rothchilds turning to Strasbourg court with property claim in Czechia

July 13th, 2021

The heirs of the Rothschild family have filed a complaint against the Czech Republic over their claim to the family manor in Silherovice in the Opava area with the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, their lawyer Hana Hikelova told journalists on Tuesday. In January, the Czech Constitutional Court rejected 12 complaints filed by the Rothschild heirs after their unsuccessful lawsuits claiming the return of property in the area near the border with Poland. Hikelova said in doing so, the Czech Republic had violated the European Convention on the Protection of Human Rights. "The Rothschild family considers the refusal of today's Czech courts to deal with the affair a legitimisation of Nazi measures targeting Jews from the Holocaust era, which is unacceptable," she added.
