Presidential decision on state of emergency in next two days - aide

September 1st, 2021

The Polish president could declare a state of emergency in areas near the Polish-Belarusian border within the next two days, the head of the president's office said on Wednesday. Pawel Szrot told PAP that the president wanted to make a decision on the possible introduction of emergency laws as quickly as possible. In recent weeks Poland, Lithuania and Latvia have observed increasing numbers of migrants crossing into their territories from Belarus. The three countries have accused Belarus of deliberately sending migrants to their borders in an effort to destabilise the EU.
