Prague mayor wants to reduce refugee aid at overburdened sites

May 24th, 2022

Prague Mayor Zdenek Hrib proposes that the payment of benefits to Ukrainian refugees and subsidies for their lodging be restricted at the sites that have run out of capacities, he said after the talks of regional representatives with Interior Minister Vit Rakusan on Tuesday. Hrib is of the view that the transfer of refugees to the places with vacant capacities should be managed in a coordinated way. Jakub Veinlich, spokesman for Rakusan, confirmed that the relocation of refugees from the overburdened sites to those with some vacant capacities had been debated, but that it must be assessed whether the proposed solution was in harmony with law.
