The number of Polish families and children living in extreme poverty increased sharply between 2019 and 2020, Poland's statistics office said on Thursday. According to data from the Central Statistical Office (GUS), the number of families living in extreme poverty rose from 4.2 percent in 2019 to 5.2 percent last year. At the same time the number of Polish children living in extreme poverty rose from 4.5 percent to 5.9 percent. GUS added that this reflected a general increase in poverty observed in Poland since 2016.
