Popularity of payment cards up in Poland

The number of payment cards on the Polish market increased by 404,000 to 42.1 million at the end of Q2 this year, compared to the end of March, the National Bank of Poland (NBP) reported on Thursday. According to NBP, debit cards were the most popular type of card and made up 79.6 percent of the total of payment cards. Their number increased by 1 percent to 33.5 million cards at the end of June this year, compared to the end of Q1, 2019. Credit cards were the second most popular type of card. They made up 13.9 percent of the total of payment cards and their number was 5.83 million at the end of June. NBP data showed that the number of credit cards in Q2 decreased by 34,000, a drop of 0.6 percent.
