Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki carries too little weight in Europe to negotiate more EU funding for Poland, politicians from main oppositionist Civic Platform (PO) said on Thursday. Morawiecki is representing Poland at a Thursday-launched informal EU summit in Sibiu, Romania. The meeting will focus on EU strategies until 2024. PO's Andrzej Halicki told a press conference in Warsaw that a draft of the EU's next financial perspective envisaged a cut of around PLN 100 billion (EUR 23.3 billion) in cohesion funding for Poland, and insisted that the Morawiecki government had a slim chance of negotiating a better funding package as it had no "real influence" on EU decisions and stood in permanent conflict with EU institutions.
