Malgorzata Gosiewska was on Wednesday appointed new deputy speaker of the lower house of the Polish parliament, the Sejm, replacing Beata Mazurek, who has been elected a European Parliament member. Gosiewska and Mazurek are both members of the ruling party, the conservative but socially-oriented Law and Justice (PiS). Gosiewska's candidacy was supported by 246 MPs in the 460-member Sejm, while 121 opposed her and 38 abstained from the vote.
