Polish army modernisation plan signed

October 10th, 2019

The Technical Modernisation Plan for the Polish Armed Forces for the years 2021-2035 was signed on Thursday by Minister of National Defence Mariusz Blaszczak. The plan provides for expenditures to the tune of PLN 524 billion (EUR 121.2 billion). During the signing ceremony in Warsaw's Wesola district, home to the 1st Armoured Brigade, Blaszczak said: "It is absolutely necessary to ensure a sufficient budget and create effective mechanisms that enable the technical modernisation of the Polish Armed Forces to be carried out for the 21st century." The defence minister said the government had done been active over the past four years to modernise the army, highlighting the purchase of the Patriot air-defence system, HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) launchers, and helicopters from Poland's Mielec and Swidnik factories.
