Polish anti-corruption bureau investigating audit office head

September 23rd, 2019

Poland's Central Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBA) said on Monday it has been investigating the statement of assets of Supreme Audit Office (NIK) President Marian Banas since April 16 and that the investigation was expected to end in the second half of October. On Saturday, Poland's TVN private TV broadcaster reported that a tenement building owned by Banas in Krakow's Pogorze district housed a small hostel which rented out rooms on an hourly basis. According to TVN, Banas declared in 2016 that he was selling the apartment building, though the sale never went through. A preliminary agreement was recorded in court documents, TVN said, adding that the would-be buyer was 30-year-old Dawid O., who also runs a guesthouse in the same building.
