Police in Bratislava on Sunday night arrested a man who has been banned from driving and was riding a stolen motorcycle from Austria, but not before they were obliged to fire a warning shot to stop him, Bratislava police spokesman Michal Szeiff told TASR on Monday. Officers in a patrol car sighted the bike rider on a main road in Bratislava city centre shortly after 3am on Sunday and decided to pull him over for a check, but he rode away at high speed. The rider entered an intersecting street on the wrong side of the road and continued to speed away despite numerous calls to stop. Still on the wrong side, he crossed two more streets until he finally reached Racianska street, where he tried to ride the bike over a kerb. One of the pursuing officers got out of his car in order to detain the man, but the latter resisted arrest and engaged in a fight with the officer. The rider then tried to flee the scene on foot, but the officer fired a warning shot and he finally gave himself up.
